Dare to Delight and Document – is the new mantra and mission I am adopting for my business. This comes from a deep belief that too often we hold back on our delight. I wrote in a previous blog post about how easily we hide as adults, especially women, based on our fears and insecurities. You can read more about that in my Dare to Delight and Document post.
As I visit family’s and document their lives I consistently hear these insecurities at the beginning of the session. Things like “oh please ignore the mess” or “I’m not sure what you want us to do” or “does this look right” or “I promise my kids don’t usually…” or “do most kids …?”. What I love is as the day goes on I find families remember how to just be family. They take away the pressure of have to be “right” and instead they simply delight in each other. They slow down and enjoy the little things in life. Showing a mom just how precious bath time can be or a dad how many moments are found in cooking breakfast is a way of daring us all to remember how to delight in the little things.
So as I think about the future of Captured Grace by Erin I will always be committed to documenting family moments, especially through in home day in the life sessions. However, I am also dedicated to supporting us all in daring to delight in the lives we are creating and to then document them. I will be sharing tips, resources, reminders and connecting us with those in the community who are also delighting in family. I will be inviting guests to post and for clients to share their thoughts on what it means to delight in our lives. I will also be challenging us to document that through our own photography, blogging, scrapbooking, printing and framing images and however else helps you to leave a legacy of the life you are building. Let me know if you or someone you know wants to be involved.
No more will we wait to be perfect to delight, no more will we put of documenting our life as it is today. Instead we will dare to delight in our life and document our legacy. Because family writes a beautiful story.
