“For I know the plans I have for you. Plans to prosper you and not to harm you. Plans to give you a future and a hope.” Jeremiah 29:11
“This was the Lord’s doing; it is marvelous in our eyes. This is the day the Lord has made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.” Psalms 118:23-24
These verses always meant peace and comfort to my heart and yet I know sometimes I take these truths for granted. Then I saw it played out in a genuine and truly beautiful way in this precious family. Diane and I grew up in church together and I always thought she had such a sweet spirit. As we grew up we lost touch when I moved to Los Angeles but through the power of Facebook I watched her grow into an amazing wife, mother and photographer. See her amazing work at Diane Loveless Photography. Seriously awesome stuff!
Then came the story of precious Miles. Born at 25 weeks weighing a mere 1 pound 12 ounces this rainbow baby came into their lives on his own schedule. Seeing this tiny little one fight for life broke my heart. Yet to watch his parents live out their faith and trust in God strengthened my heart and challenged my own trust. I just knew I had to photograph them when he made it home and make it home he did. Overcoming breathing tubes and eye surgeries, Miles made it home, growing and developing into a chunky and happy 6 month old who is loved and adored by his big brother Elliot and parents.
Diane and Jeff, thank you for opening your home to me to document your beautiful family. Even more thank you for living out your faith, the struggles and the joys. Thank you for allowing God to work through you to grow me. It is truly an honor to be a small part of your lives.
Pancakes were on the menu for breakfast this morning. Watching Elliot cook with his dad was such a special moment. You can see he adores his dad and tries to be like him, even standing the same way. Of course when you make pancakes you must use your Star Wars spatula! It makes everything better.
Miles was not to be outdone by his brother. Pretending to sleep only to make sure we knew he didn’t want to miss out on the fun.
I always love when families enjoy the simple things and turn them into meaningful moments. Legos with dad is a perfect example.
When Diane snuck away to nurse I knew I needed to make images that documented this special bond. They worked so hard for this, I cried the first time she posted they were able to do this in the hospital. So often micro preemies struggle to nurse and this momma fought to make sure it would be an option for them. Of course big brother couldn’t stay away for long and soon came checking on his mom and brother. Elliot is a special soul. So protective and in tune to everyone’s emotions. He was a joy to document.
Since this was the first time all four of them were together in front of the camera we made sure to pile on the bed and get a few family images.
I have a weakness for daddies and babies. Jeff is no exception. He loves his little boys and is the silent rock for this family. I cannot wait to see what God does with this precious family. They are a privilege to know.
