“What children need most are the essentials that grandparents provide in abundance. They give unconditional love, kindness, patience, humor, comfort, lessons in life. And, most importantly, cookies”. ~Rudy Giuliani
When I watch my parents with my niece and nephew or with my young adopted siblings, I am instantly aware of all the love, kindness, and lessons I learned in life. As a child you are often mostly aware of the lessons you are learning, the growing up your parents are guiding you to do. Our early years are locked away in our memories. Then the next generation is born and suddenly you are transported back in time. You see the love that beams from nana’s face as she cuddles and nurtures. You see the pride and joy as grandpa plays and teaches. I can just picture being loved and taught like that as a young child.
This is also why I believe so deeply in the beauty of a day in the life sessions. These images are a visual history. One that will grow and be added to over time. A history that will show just how much their grandparents reveled in caring for them and just how much fun they had together as siblings. It also shows just how fun time in a large cardboard box is.
