Day In the Life NICU Photo Session at UCLA Santa Monica: Skye, Ericka and Jada

“And though she be but little, she is fierce”.  – Shakespeare

This quote describes tiny Miss Skye Ryder perfectly and I know exactly where she gets her fierceness from, her beautiful momma! Seriously, this woman is amazing. Ericka is one of those people you meet and know instantly you will be friends with. She is tough and determined, qualities reflected by her little one. Just read their story written by Skye’s mother below and you will know exactly what I mean.

Skye is actually a triplet. I became naturally pregnant with triplets. Her 2 siblings passed away in my 2nd trimester. I was diagnosed with a short cervix requiring an emergency cerclage and hospital bed rest until delivery. I had to sadly carry my other 2 babies along with Skye until delivery. It was the only way to save Skye. I went into labor requiring an emergent c section at 30 weeks + 1 day. Skye was 3.1 lbs and 16 in. She’s beautiful and so strong, the staff say that she acts like she’s older than she really is.

While reading her story still brings tears to my eyes, I cannot help but see all the strength and grace displayed by both Skye and her precious mom. She also has a big sister who not only picked her middle name, Ryder, but just adores her little sister. I am so grateful that I was able to make images that tell the story of a day in the life of this family. During our day in the life photo session I watch such tenderness from mom, love from big sister and amazing compassion from the UCLA hospital staff. I look forward to watching Skye grow. I know she will move mountains one day!
